Barton Top Patriot

It is a new era at Foothill in that Schwartz is gone and they have a new head coach. The season has started well for them with two wins in their first dual meet. In the boys race, they took the first two spots and had six in the top ten for the win.

In the girls race, Liberty's Ashley Barton (photo) won but Foothill won the team race with Natalie Fernandez leading them with her second place finish.

Kevin Shotts was the top Liberty boy in 3rd in a time of 17:14

Barton leads the Patriots

Their top five girls averaged 22:51 that day.

Now that Ashley Barton (Jr) has gotten all of injuries out of her system (she hopes), perhaps she can have a complete cross
country season. In the past, she has been a setter on her school's volleyball team and Liberty's top runner. Last year she
ran well the first months of the season before injuring her ankle (I believe) at the Taft Invite. This injury effectively
ended her season in late October. Then in the winter, she broke her arm snowboarding.

Marty Affentranger was the 22nd Best long Jumper in the State

Marty Affentranger Liberty | senior After completing a disparate double at the area meet in the 400 and long jump, Affentranger advanced to the state meet in both events by finishing third and first, respectively. In front of other area pole vaulters that event was a formality, Klinchuch cleared 12 feet once and 11-9 at the section meet, good enough for second. Narrowly missed the finals with an 11-6 clear in the state prelims. Headed to Long Beach State.

Marty Affentranger - 400 & long Jump

Marty is known as a 400 runner but this year he has been the top long jumper in the valley. In the state rankings, he is not in the top 25 in the 400 but is 19th in the long jump. In the past, he has competed at state in the 1600 relay with former Patriot Isiah Purvis.
